It didn’t take long for the Detroit Tigers to jump out to a lead, and the Guardians (58-64) went on to lose 4-2 in the first game of a traditional doubleheader Friday at Progressive Field.

Tigers leadoff hitter Akil Baddoo opened the game with a solo home run off Guardians starter Gavin Williams. The Tigers then tacked on two more runs on Kerry Carpenter’s RBI single and Miguel Cabrera’s RBI double before Williams got out of the inning.

Although they didn’t score again until the ninth, the Tigers never trailed.

Williams allowed three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts in five innings, raising his ERA to 3.02.
