July 8 marked the 52nd birthday of former Indian cricket captain and legendary figure Sourav Ganguly, fondly remembered for his pivotal role in shaping modern cricket. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the franchise Ganguly captained in the early seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), took the opportunity to extend heartfelt birthday regards to their inaugural leader.

Ganguly’s illustrious cricket career

Ganguly’s journey in international cricket began on January 11, 1992, with a One-Day International (ODI) against the West Indies. In a career spanning 16 illustrious years, Ganguly amassed an impressive record, playing 424 matches across formats and scoring over 18,000 runs, including 38 centuries, at an average of 41.46. His leadership qualities and aggressive batting style earned him admiration not only in India but across the cricketing world.

He bid farewell to the game on November 6, 2008, in a memorable test match against Australia, marking the end of an era for Indian cricket.

Kolkata Knight Riders extend birthday greetings to Sourav Ganguly

Speaking on behalf of KKR, the team management expressed their gratitude and admiration for Ganguly’s contributions to the franchise and Indian cricket at large. Sourav Ganguly’s leadership was instrumental in shaping KKR’s early years, laying the foundation for the team’s future success

Apart from his international exploits, Ganguly’s influence extended to the IPL, where he represented Kolkata Knight Riders and later Pune Warriors India. His tenure with KKR saw him play 59 matches and score 1349 runs, showcasing his ability to adapt and excel in the T20 format.
