Jose Mourinho Takes Aim at Man City Over Title Controversy

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has sensationally claimed that he believes his old club still have a chance of retroactively being named 2018-18 Premier League winners.

The Portuguese boss was addressing the media ahead of his current team Fenerbahce’s Europa League clash with the Red Devils in Istanbul on Thursday evening.

While Mourinho was quick to point out that he has only positive memories of his time at Old Trafford – having won a Carabao Cup and Europa League title with the Premier League side – he suggested that he could be adding another title to his resume.

With Manchester City currently facing allegations of 115 breaches of Premier League financial rules, Mourinho suggested that if the champions are in fact guilty and stripped of the title then he could be in line for a winners medal – and a ‘bonus’.

‘Honestly, I didn’t lose one minute thinking about it. I wish the best to Manchester United since the moment I left. I left with a good feeling to the club, to the fans,’ he said in the Turkish city on Wednesday.

He continued: ‘What happened for sure, because it’s very objective, is that they keep faith in the coach. They support the coach. The coach is staying season after season and that means stability, it means trust.

‘They are giving him conditions to keep developing his job. That was a difference in relation to me because as you know we won Europa League, we finish second in the Premier League.

‘I think we still have a chance to win that league because maybe they punishment Man City with points and maybe we win that league and they have to pay me the bonus and give me the medal.’

The Red Devils came second to their crosstown rivals that season, with Mourinho’s side finishing way behind City.

It was a remarkable, record-breaking year for Pep Guardiola and Co, who managed to pick up an unprecedented 100 points.

Mourinho’s side, meanwhile, managed an otherwise highly creditable 81 after a campaign that saw them win 25 matches across the top-flight season.
