Erik ten Hag will reportedly be given two more games to save his job as Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman is under huge pressure following a dismal start to the 2024-25 campaign, but the Man Utd board have decided to keep him in charge for the time being.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the hierarchy at Old Trafford held a meeting at INEOS’ headquarters on Tuesday, with Ten Hag’s future at the club a prominent topic in discussions.

It’s official! Man Utd suffer WORST EVER START in Premier League history

Despite the Red Devils’ poor start to the new season, the club opted against sacking Ten Hag and he now looks set to remain in the dugout for Man Utd’s home match against Brentford on 19 October.

However, Ten Hag has been told that a final decision on his future is likely to be made after their trip to face Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League on 24 October.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who state that Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter are both being considered as possible replacements for Ten Hag.

Winners and losers of Man Utd sacking Erik ten Hag

Man Utd are currently 14th in the Premier League table, having picked up just eight points from their opening seven matches, and Southampton (four) are the only team with fewer league goals than the Red Devils (five) so far this campaign.

In addition, they are 21st in the Europa League standings after drawing both of their opening two games against FC Twente and Porto.

Gareth Southgate to Man Utd?

Gareth Southgate has also been linked with replacing Ten Hag at Man Utd, but the former England boss has ruled himself out of contention.

“I won’t coach in the next year, for sure. I’m certain of that,” Southgate said at the European Club Association (ECA) General Assembly in Athens on Thursday.

“I need to give myself time to make good decisions. When you come out of a really big role you need to give your body time, you need to give your mind time.

“I am fortunate there are lots of opportunities presenting themselves.”
