Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Christian Eriksen will ‘likely’ leave Manchester United next summer.

The Dane has been pretty much everpresent in Erik ten Hag’s side since Casemiro’s horror showing at Old Trafford in the derby against Liverpool. Though Eriksen made a high-profile mistake against Twente Enschede that cost Man Utd all three points, the veteran has generally been very reliable.

The Red Devils have not lost a game in which Eriksen has started this term, and the 32-year-old again got the nod from the beginning in the 2-1 comeback victory over Brentford on Saturday, playing the full 90.

Eriksen’s importance is only set to increase in the wake of Kobbie Mainoo’s injury, which will see the youngster miss up to seven games. However, despite his recent resurgence, Eriksen is set to leave Man Utd in the summer.

Romano confirms Eriksen exit

The midfielder is out of contract in 2025 and he recently told Danish media that no talks over an extension are taking place. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that the ex-Tottenham man was indeed telling the truth.

The Italian has announced that a contract renewal is not a topic at Man Utd and that Eriksen is ‘likely’ to leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

The future of Eriksen, who was the subject of summer interest from Real Betis and Anderlecht, has been hotly debated given his contract situation and a potential return to Ajax is increasingly becoming a topic in the media.

Eriksen has indicated that he has no intention to leave Europe and the Dutch giants have been frequently associated with a move. A transfer was simply not feasible in the previous window, but a 2025 move seems possible especially with big-earner Jordan Henderson potentially leaving Amsterdam.
