Tuchel’s Potential World Cup Bonus vs Southgate’s Missed Opportunity

admin

Thomas Tuchel will reportedly land a significant bonus if he leads England to glory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The 51-year-old German has won trophies with Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich during his career in club management.

He was announced earlier this month as the man chosen by the Football Association to take over from Gareth Southgate, who stood down as England manager following his side’s defeat by Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Tuchel has signed an 18-month contract with the FA and he will earn at least £7.5million during that period, according to The Sun.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Tuchel will receive an extra bonus payment of £3m if England’s men end their trophy drought by winning the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

Tuchel’s reported salary of £5m per year is said to be twice as much as Southgate was on.

However, Southgate apparently stood to earn a bigger bonus, worth £4m, had he been the man to deliver a World Cup triumph.

Southgate took England to two World Cups. In 2018, he led the Three Lions to fourth place in Russia, where they were beaten by Croatia in the semi-finals.

England then bowed out at the quarter-final stage in Qatar in 2022, losing to France.

Southgate also took England to consecutive Euros finals. His side were beaten on penalties by Italy in the final of Euro 2020, before losing 2-1 to Spain in the last game at Euro 2024.

Tuchel’s first game as England manager is expected to be in March 2025.

Lee Carsley, who has been in charge on an interim basis since Southgate’s summer departure, will lead the team against Greece and Ireland in November.
