Max Verstappen has revealed what he thinks about Jurgen Klopp’s appointment by Red Bull.

Despite insisting that he wanted to take a break from football after his hugely impressive spell as Liverpool manager came to an end, Klopp was named as Red Bull’s global head of soccer earlier this month.

Klopp will start his new role on January 1 2025 on a four-year deal.

This role will require Klopp to be responsible for the international network of all football clubs under the Red Bull umbrella – including Leipzig, Salzburg and the New York Red Bulls.

He will be required to advise the clubs on coaching matters, playing philosophy, development and transfers of players and head coaches.

Formula One star Verstappen, who has won three World Driver’s Championship titles with Red Bull, believes that Klopp’s appointment is a major positive.

As reported by The Mirror, Verstappen said: ‘I knew already for quite a long time that they were talking and it was close to being signed. I think it is great. Red Bull is investing a lot also in football with the teams they have and there is a lot of talent that has come through already.

‘With someone like Jurgen in charge from the top, he has a lot of experience, and he has managed a lot of great clubs. It is great for the whole organization.’

Following his appointment, Klopp described his excitement regarding the challenge that lies ahead for him.

Klopp told the Red Bull website: ‘After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this.

‘The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal.

‘There are many ways that we can do this front using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries.

‘Together we can discover what is possible. I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organisation that is unique, innovative and forward looking. As I said, this could not excite me more.’

Klopp has negotiated an exit clause in his contract with Red Bull that would enable him to take the Germany national team job if approached.

During his time as Liverpool manager, Klopp won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup and two League Cups as well as the Club World Cup and the Super Cup.
