Davante Adams Saga: Raiders Coach Pierce Makes Huge Statement

The trade saga revolving around Davante Adams and the Las Vegas Raiders took a bizarre turn on Wednesday following a bold statement from coach Antonio Pierce.

On October 1, Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders would ‘consider trading WR Davante Adams for a package that would include a second-round pick and additional compensation.’

However, with the wide receiver still on their roster despite being questionable, Pierce revealed where he stands with Adams amid the trade speculations.

‘He’s still a Raider,’ Pierce said at a press conference. ‘He’s never not been a Raider.’

‘When he’s healthy and we can play him, we’ll play him,’ he added. ‘He’s just not healthy right now. He’s getting closer, though, that’s a good point.’

Adams has played in three games so far this season and caught 18 passes for 209 yards and nine touchdowns for the 2-2 Raiders.

He did not suit up for their Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns and Week 5 loss to the Denver Broncos after suffering a hamstring injury in practice.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his place on the team, Pierce reiterated the steps Adams is taking towards getting healthier.

‘He’s working every day to get the hamstrings right,’ Pierce shared. ‘He’s in the right headspace mentally. We talked recently and had a good conversation – he’s ready to play football.’

Pierce also noted that Adams has done much of his rehab at the team’s training facility.

Adams is in the middle of his third season in Las Vegas since getting traded from Green Bay in March 2022. The receiver has three years left on his contract and is set to make $35.6million in 2025 and 2026.

The six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro receiver found Las Vegas intriguing two years ago, partially because his college teammate Derek Carr was the franchise’s quarterback then.

However, with Carr now in New Orleans and the team having a lot of uncertainty in the quarterback position, Adams is looking for greener pastures in the NFL.

In the same press conference, Pierce revealed that Aidan O’Connell will be starting over Gardner Minshew for the Raiders’ game against Pittsburgh on the 13th. Las Vegas holds a 2-3 record, sitting fourth in the AFC West.
