NFL Fans React to Rob Gronkowski in ‘Aaron Hernandez: American Sports Story’

NFL fans are in disbelief of the ‘cringey’ new TV show documenting Aaron Hernandez’s time with the New England Patriots.

‘Aaron Hernandez: American Sports Story’ debuted on FX last month and charts the life of the late football player turned convicted murderer.

But viewers have had negative reactions to the program, especially after a recent scene depicting Hernandez and his ex-Patriots teammate (and fellow tight end) Rob Gronkowski in the locker room.

In the scene, Gronkowski hilariously informs his new teammate that ‘they call me Gronk’ before excitedly hitting Hernandez in the chest before practice.

Fans also criticized the fact that Hernandez’s actor bore little resemblance to the real player.

‘This is why sports biopics never work. I can’t get passed the fact they cast a chubby 5’7″ guy as Aaron Hernandez,’ one fan said on X.

‘Just how low was the budget on this thing?,’ another added.

‘This show looks so cringe but this guy does a good gronk,’

Other agreed with the second part of that assessment of the famously bro-ey tight end.

‘This is the best gronk I’ve ever seen,’ one said.

‘Dude playing Gronk is acting his a** off while the rest of them mail it in.

A previous scene depicting legendary Patriots coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft was also widely mocked after it made the rounds on X.

There will be a total of 10 episodes of the limited series.
