Zaheer’s inclusion of Bumrah and Shami in his elite group is no surprise, given their recent performances. Bumrah, who is currently playing in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, has been in exceptional form, taking five wickets in the match across both innings. His return to form is seen as crucial for India’s success in future assignments.

Shami, India’s leading fast bowler in recent years, has been sidelined since the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 due to an ankle injury. Despite his absence, reports indicate that Shami is working hard to regain his fitness. He is expected to make his return in the coming months, offering India a potent two-pronged pace attack along with Bumrah.

Upcoming challenges: The road to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

India’s fast bowling attack will be tested in their upcoming assignments, starting with the Test series against New Zealand, set to begin on October 16. However, the true challenge will come in the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, beginning on November 22. This series will play a critical role in determining the top contenders in the World Test Championship standings.

With the upcoming series likely to shape the future of the WTC, fans are eagerly awaiting to see whether Bumrah and Shami can lead India to a strong finish in the 2023-25 cycle. Both bowlers will be key if India aims to challenge for the top spot in the standings ahead of the all-important WTC final.
